Investigations employing ultrasonics conform the results obtained previously by the rotating disk method. Supersonic treatment increase the pitting potential for stable pitting and reduced maximum corrosion current density. In the case of repassivation, the treatment had little effect on the pitting potential. Cycling tests under galvanostatic conditions show that the effect of ultrasonics is practically instantaneous. As in the rotating disk tests, the corrosion pits were very small.
