Paper mill keeps close tabs on its process wastewater

MacMillan Bloedel's Powell River pulp and paper mill had to employ a secondary effluent treatment system in compliance with British Columbia's environmental laws. Strict regulations on discharge of suspended solids, biological oxygen demand (BOD) and chlorinated organic compounds (AOX) required daily monitoring and analysis. The standard PLC utilized by the mill was GE Fanuc 90-70 with genius I/O blocks. The system feature redundant operation and bumpless transfer to secure maintenance of the hard drives. Vivid technology infrared touch screen facilitates application and operation of the system. Wonderware intouch version 4.0 was deemed to work best with GE/Fanuc's high-speed genius bus protocol with redundant PLCs.
