The necessary conditions for testing hypersonic air intakes at supercritical Reynolds numbers are discussed. High compression ratios were attained in a shock tube operating at steady state for about 50 msec at M equals 7. 5 to 13. 1. Tested were air intake models with flat, divergent and convergent compression modes, and supercritical Reynolds numbers. Flow separation occurred at the critical Reynolds numbers. The flow rate and transient period were determined, the pressures were measured, and flow patterns were deduced.
