This article discusses the process of diffusion into chemical equipment made of glass reinforced polyester with particular attention to mechanism of action of chemical agents on GRP. Results of an experimental program are presented and discussed. HP shows that the diffusion of acids and bases can result in reciprocal reactions between fluid and glass fibers or laminating resin, leading to changes in laminate properties. The diffusion capacity of acids and bases differs considerably.
