Output characteristics of linear cavity erbium-doped fiber laser

The output characteristics of linear cavity erbium-doped fiber laser has been analyzed theoretically and explicitly by solving the rate equations. Analytical expressions were evaluated for threshold pump power, output power and slope efficiency of the laser under steady-state conditions. The analysis shows that the optimum fiber length is related to the incident pump power and the excited emission wave length. The expression of minimum and optimum fiber length for designing a linear cavity erbium-doped fiber has been given, therefore, a theoretical basis for optimization design is provided.
