Off-stoichiometric and low excess-air firing have proved to be effective in reducing NO//x emissions of power boilers. Some flue gas recirculation systems have also proved to be effective, but this method does not lend itself to backfitting without cost and operating disadvantages that may negate any emission control advantage.
