Magnetic circular x-ray dichroism at Pd L2,3-edges in Fe-Pd alloys

We have measured magnetic circular x-ray dichroism and x-ray absorption near edge structure at the Pd L2,3-edges in disordered Fe-Pd alloys. The measurements in the energy range of 3.1-3.4 keV were made by detecting the fluorescent x-rays from bulk sample at room temperature. The intensity ratio between the dichroic signals at the L2,3-edges is in good agreement with the statistical value of -1, which indicates that spin-orbit coupling is weak in the Pd 4d-bands. The magnetooptical sum rules show that the Pd 4d magnetic moments are mainly ascribed to spin character.
