NKK (Nippon Kokan K. K. ) introduced the Water-Quench System to the Continuous Annealing Process (WQ/NKK-CAL Process) in the production of drawing quality cold rolled steel sheets and high strength cold rolled sheets. However, with the recent tendency toward energy-saving, development of new rapid cooling techniques has been urgently needed for further reduction of production cost. It is the Roll Quench (RQ) System that meets this need. This paper describes the development of RQ technology test operations and the quality of the steel sheet thus manufactured.
