A study of heat transfer rates for high temperature gas turbines was made. The results indicate a sharp increase of heat transfer rates in the downstream region of a shock. The effect of shock strength and the boundary layer thickness on increase in heat transfer is investigated. Data are obtained on the effect of a shock on the efficiency of a thermal-protection gas blanket. Practical recommndations are given for calculating the heat transfer in the zone of interaction between a shock and a turbulent boundary layer.
