CdS single crystals, 4 cm long and 1. 2 cm in diameter, were grown from the vapor phase. The requisite temperature distribution for the vapor growth was created by using a crucible containing molten tin as the heating bath surrounding the vacuum sealed quartz ampoule. The methods of growth and the crystallographic and electrical properties of the grown crystals were examined. Single crystals with an electric resistivity of 30 OMEGA cm were obtained from a charge with an excess of 0. 2 mg of sulfur per gram of CdS. The dislocation density observed was the order of 10**4/cm**2.
