A description is given of the PPM-MPM process and its characteristic deformation steps. The function of the core aggregates of a pressure pipe mill (PPM) and the continuous rolling mill with mandrel bar, a multistand pipe mill (MPM), is explained. Trends in the development of PPM and MPM plant technologies are revealed from a comparison of the DALMINE plant at Bergamo, Italy, and the US Steel plant in Fairfield, Alabama.
