The production of matchbox paper results in production of waste water containing from 0. 15 to 0. 5 mg/liter of the dye basic violet K. Periodically this water is discharged into the general plant effluent which, in spite of the very low dye concentration, sharply impairs the operation of the biological treatment facilities. This work studied the treatment of a model solution of the dye by ultrafiltration, differing from other known methods of compact systems; the possibility was examined of improving the efficiency of this process by using addition of sulfite liquor.
