Influence of the Surface Color on the Result of Gloss Measurements.

The international standardized method of gloss measurement is based on the measurement of directionally reflected light scattered forward in a very small solid angle. This component of the reflected light is largely independent of the spectral power distribution. This is shown by model calculations and measurements of colored samples. On the basis of these results, it is proposed that the restriction on the use of standard illuminant A and a V( lambda )-corrected detector in the standards be removed. Instead, it is recommended only that the measurement be carried out with a light having a wavelength near the maximum spectral luminous efficiency.
