When putting into operation of high power electric furnaces at a plant major efforts were directed to 1) design improvement of electric and mechanical equipment, 2) design and introduction of protection of refractory lining and improvement of its resistance (changes of laying scheme, utilization of fused magnesia refractories, changes of power schedule etc.), 3) development of power-technological schedule of melting and technology of out-of furnace processing of steel aimed at stabilization of arcing and combination of metal melting and refining processes. The worked out technology provided for steel smelting according to orders saving ferroalloys which allowed increased steel production and decreased consumption of electrodes.
