A study is described of the reason for the formation of insoluble secondary structures in industrial polymerisation of polyisoprene using a Ziegler-Natta catalyst (SKI-3 is high-cis stereoregular polyisoprene). It was found that cis-trans-isomerisation and partial crosslinking of the molecular chains occur. The content of cis-1,4 units in the soluble rubber SKI-3, in the dense gel and in the 'grit' are 93, 65 and 45% respectively.
