Details have been received from Australia of a new coating process which, say the developers, will have far reaching effects on the international glass container industry, its manufacturing costs and finished products. The incorporation of ultra violet light screening agents in the coating are said to selectively screen out damaging wavelengths and protect the container's contents, while the coating's scuff-resistant properties minimise scoring and scratching and thus maximise container burst strength. In addition, it would appear that treated ware can be recycled; the Vapocure coating is said to volatilise on remelt, returning to the original flint composition.
