High use temperature, low-density syntactic foams were prepared and characterized. Mechanical properties, thermal conductivity, specific heat, thermal expansion and water absorption were determined on selected materials. Polyimide, polyarylsulfone and polyarylene sulfide organic matrix resins were used in conjunction with low density glass micro-balloons. Elevated temperature (600F) aging studies were conducted for periods of up to 500 hours. Methods of preparation of these syntactic foams are discussed and described.
