The Island Water Association (IWA) of Sanibel, Florida is responsible for supplying potable water for Sanibel and Captiva Islands. IWA uses a reverse osmosis (R.O.) process of purification to obtain water from wells in two deep artesian aquifers. At present, ten of the sixteen wells actively providing feed water to the R.O. plant are already equipped with a fieldbus system. Since the first modifications made in April of 1997, encouraging results continue to be achieved.
