Use of beryllium copper castings in nonferrous tooling

The scope of this paper is the position of cast beryllium copper cavities and cores in the field of nonferrous tooling in the plastics industry. Brief summary concerning pressure castings is followed by the review of the latest developments in the gravity casting field, the expansion of which has been triggered by the demand for larger and larger castings by the furniture industry. Advantages of hobbed beryllium cavities over steel hobbings are indicated. Technological process of mold manufacture is described in detail and advantages of the gravity cast system are outlined.
