ENERGY UTILISATION AT BRITISH STEEL CORPORATION'S REDCAR PROJECT.

An outline is given of the current phase of the new Redcar Project and reviews the approach to the utilization of energy at the design stage. By-product gaseous fuels arising from the primary processes are an important source of energy and reference is made to their utilization and distribution together with the centralized energy control room with its related facilities. The various process groups in the Redcar Project are of very high productive capacity and include some developments which will be new to the British steel industry. These are described with particular reference to the energy utilization aspects. A brief review is given of potential future developments in energy conservation in iron and steel making operations.
