摘要
Cast alloys are prone to having defects in shrinkage, hot tears, gas porosity, and alloy segregation, which generally result in lower and more variable mechanical properties. Hot isostatic pressing is used increasingly for the repair and improvement of castings. The steel tested is a casehardened steel UNI 7846 (20 CrNi 4) obtained in the form of billets 160 mm long and 90 mm in diameter by remelting, under vacuum, commercial bars and casting in show moulding. Two lots of test specimens were obtained from as-cast steel and as many lots from hipped billets. The hot pressing treatment had substantially three effects on the microstructure of the examined steel: reduction of the solidification defects, homogenization of the chemical composition and grain refining. 10 refs.
