A heat pipe, 3. 5 m in length and 0. 025 m in diameter, is assembled into a solar collector testing system in order to investigate its feasibility as the thermal absorber of a solar collector. The system is of the east-west oriented parabolic trough type, having a solar collecting area of about 4 m**2, 2. 7 m in length and 1. 5 m in aperture width. The total efficiency of heat conversion of the system is found to be of the order of 40%, indicating that the heat pipe is useful as a heat absorber. The experimental value of the conversion efficiency is found to be in good agreement with the theoretical value obtained by analytical study.
