Fast-firing wollastonite-based wall tile bodies

Reactive component of porous tile bodies was prepared by fast single firing using HP-71 and 64 clays, and wollastonite. Compositions were milled and homogenized in agate mortars and rotary mills until the residue on a 63 μm sieve was approximately 3 wt%. Specimens were fired in an electric furnace at 1000°, 1050° and 1100 °C. At 1000° and 1050 °C, the higher proportion of anorthite corresponded to a 30 wt% content of wollastonite. In contrast, in compositions heated at 1150 °C, the curve was not representative, and a high amount of glassy phase was formed in compositions close to that of anorthite.
