MANUFACTURE OF LARGE RUBBER PRODUCTS.

This bibliography based review paper is split into three main sections, covering molding, pneumatic tires and other products. As molding, in one form or another, is a substantial part of rubber production, its inclusion is an obvious choice. In this section, the theoretical considerations of vulcanizing thick rubber products are discussed as well as the development of the products themselves. The inclusion of the pneumatic tire is another obvious choice as it is the major single product area in the industry today. However, the more commonly described passenger car tire has been excluded and only earthmover, aircraft and commercial vehicle tires are discussed. The final section on other products discusses products as varied as roller covering and reservoir linings, with efforts being made to avoid a simple listing of claims for the world's largest product. Within each product area an indication of the historical development is given. Also discussed are economic and other factors (e. g. , safety) that have and still do influence production. Where possible, future trends are indicated.
