摘要
An objective method of extracting quantitative information on the directional statistics of the transparency is described. A coherent optical bench suitable for performing this diffraction pattern sampling and some examples of its use is shown. An optical system which, as well as incorporating certain refinements of this technique, permits the immediate application of the directional information to coherent image processing (e. g. enhancement or suppression of selected orientations in the original). The potential importance of such facilities in fracture trace analysis has been discussed. Diagrams demonstrate optical systems.
