A mathematical model of a sports aircraft moving along the ground after landing is presented which takes into account five degrees of freedom. The unsteady side forces acting on the tires are assumed to be linear functions of the sideslip, the camber angle, and the steady aerodynamic forces. The equations of motion are derived with the aid of the Boltzmann-Hamel equations for holonomic systems. On the basis of a complete analysis it is established that there are two natural vibration modes which are decisive for the dynamic properties of an aircraft moving along the ground - namely, shimmy of the forward landing gear and yawing of the aircraft.
