Investigation of the odd carbon nanotubes obtained by arc discharge

摘要
Among the large quantities of normal carbon nanotubes there are some odd carbon nanotubes in cathode deposit obtained by arc discharge, such as double-tube, diamond-tube, Y-shaped tube etc. The TEM images of these odd carbon nanotubes are presented, and their growth and closure processes with the opening end growth model of carbon nanotubes are studied. Carbon atoms current, electric field and other factors can affect on the formation of odd carbon nanotubes. The mechanism of their growth can be qualitatively explained by the carbon nanotubes growth theory.
