ACCELERATION OF SECONDARY ELECTRONS BY PROTONS IN VACUUM.

Computer calculations of the angular distributions of the secondary electrons formed after scattering in vacuum by 10 keV protons show that an emission maximum can form along the direction of the ion motion. This effect has been observed experimentally for ion-electron emission in a transmission arrangement with a thin foil, in which case the changes in the energy and direction of the protons in the target are negligible, while the fraction of ions in the beam of atomic particles transmitted through the foil is quite large. In the present note, the author reports computer calculations by Monte Carlo method of a possible influence of the interaction in vacuum on the energy distributions of the secondary electrons.
