Tutoring systems: the state-of-the-art in Great Britain

A workshop focused on the applications of knowledge based systems in training took place at Exeter University on 17-18 November 1987. There are two aims to the workshop. The first was to provide an opportunity for both academic and industrial researchers in tutoring systems to engage in discussion on issues of common concern. The second was to determine whether there was sufficient interest in Intelligent Computer-Aided Instruction (ICAI) to warrant the establishment of an Alvey IKBS Special Interest Group for ICAI. Both aims were met. The success of the first was promoted by the distribution before the workshop of a compilation of research summaries provided by participants. The second aim was addressed by holding a SIG ICAI forum at the end of the workshop.
