This paper discusses the Aquitaine-1 program, an investigation into crack growth in PWR primary circuit piping. The experimental part of the program includes characterization of piping material, measurement of cracking speed, and an evaluation of cycling frequency. Three measurement methods for the crack depths are simultaneously utilized: a method by electrical potential, ultrasonic technics (Rayleigh waves, transversal waves). The comparison is made between the experimental results on the one hand the forecastings of growth speed resulting from the characterization of material and calculations of fracture mechanics on the other hand.
