The applications of Structural Optimisation techniques within the vehicle design process is a more efficient alternative to the traditional trial and error technique of designing a structure then analysing it. This proposition is argued by Darren Gowland BEng (Hons) CEng MlMechE, Senior Engineer with International Automotive Design, currently working with the Ford Motor Company at their Simultaneous Engineering Centre in Detroit.
