Simulation of Transient Electromagnetic Fields and Beams of Charged Particles

An algorithm is developed for simulating transient electromagnetic fields in plane- or axis-symmetric regions filled with an inhomogeneous dissipative medium. The Cauchy boundary-value problem is solved by the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. Methods are proposed for approximating boundary conditions, specifying excitation sources, and truncating the region where calculations are performed when solving exterior electrodynamic problems. The algorithm involves the solution of a self-consistent analysis problem of the motion of charged particles in the presence of their electromagnetic field. Conditions providing the completeness of the obtained system of equations are analyzed. The proposed algorithm is implemented in the form of a computer program. The results of simulations are in good agreement with the theory.
