摘要
Automation has removed employees from the manufacturing processes and point-of-operation hazards. It has turned employees from machine operators to set-up people and machine monitors. It has nearly eliminated the point-of-operation injuries. However, new thought must be put into safeguarding as it applies to those who will be required to teach, service, and work side-by-side with robots. Injury experience associated with automation indicates that the greatest risk occurs when the routine of the equipment cycle is interrupted because of a mislocated or jammed part, or when a component fails to function the way it is intended. This article discusses safety programs, studies, standards and procedures implemented by General Motors as a part of integrating robotics into production operations. Subjects covered include robot installations, controls, personnel/robot interfaces, suggested safeguards, personnel training, and others.
