SCREENING TEST OF STAINLESS STEELS FOR S. C. C.

Experimental program is reported in which testing of resistance of stainless steel to stress corrosion cracking (S. C. C. ) was examined. It been concluded that a welded specimen is favorable for practical testing of S. C. C. It may be recommended that not only Scheil solution but also other milder solutions be used to observe crack sensitivity of steels. One recommendable solution is, for example, dilute MgCl//2 boiling solution. it is suggested that MgCl//2 solution should be re-examined from the viewpoint of the solution chemistry of S. C. C.
