摘要
Many quantitative inclusion parameters have been used to relate inclusion populations to through-thickness properties and hence predict the susceptibility of a steel to lamellar tearing. These parameters are shown to give poor correlations for the semi-killed and aluminum fully killed steels examined. A parameter incorporating the lengths of only the larger inclusions in the population is shown to give more significant correlations. The spatial distribution of inclusions in the steel is estimated using statistical shape and size models, and is then used to explain the different effects on properties of duplex silicate and Type II manganese sulfide populations.
