The vast range of valves used in power engineering means that the designers of power-generating equipment are faced with a series of demands, such as systematizing standard valve types: finding similar types and their component parts in order to systematize them and make them universal; designing new types of valves which will be reliable and durable, and so forth. In order to improve the technical level and quality of valves used in the power industry and reduce the time and labor involved in designing them, there must be a qualitative rethink of the work of the design engineer. With present levels of expansion in science and technology, these problems can be solved by using computers and automated design systems, information systems, and databases.
