Description of the design and operation of a special chamber, with several control devices, which has been designed and constructed to study the effect of the degree of purity of a shielding atmosphere on the gas content, porosity, and strength characteristics of welded joints in titanium alloys. The equipment consists of a welding chamber with a vacuum system, units for regulating the composition of the shielding atmosphere, and a system for controlling the chamber atmosphere.
