An investigation into the effect of restoration heat treatment (r. h. t. ) on the structure and properties of welded joints of steam piping is described. Eleven welded joints cut out of steam piping at different power plants after long-time operation and after r. h. t. were tested. It is shown that after normalization with 980 degree C and tempering at 720-730 degree C, the metal of the welded joints acquires microstructure close to that of the principal pipe metal. Also, mechanical properties of welded joints are improved.
