Experience in Scandinavia has shown that aerial cables for 1 to 24 kV constitute a reliable and economic alternative to bare overhead lines. A complete system with cable and accessories, and installation methods have been developed. Since 1968 over 50,000 km of twisted aerial cables for 1 kV systems have been installed in Sweden. Aerial cables should be a very useful tool in countries where the electrical distribution is undergoing expansion.
