Boundary-value problem for eddy currents induced in thin metallic plates by external magnetic field

The boundary-value problem appearing in the analysis of the eddy currents in a thin nonmagnetic metallic plate after applying an external magnetic field is considered. It is shown that an integrodifferential equation can be derived from the general equations related to a nonmagnetic solid, with zero boundary condition. It is shown that this integrodifferential equation can be reduced to the nonhomogeneous diffusion equation for plates of sufficiently small thickness. The results are tested for a plate immersed in a homogeneous field.
