Generally speaking, FA (Factory Automation) and FMS (Flexible Manufacturing Systems) within press works lag behind other types of factories. In particular, implementation of FA and FMS for integrated press shops manufacturing small parts is almost non-existent because it was thought that such investment would not yield favorable results. The Japanese Company NKK has proposed application of FMS to press shops for a long time. It has constructed a press shop fitted with FMS for manufacturing small automobile parts using coil and sheet materials.
