A synthetic blowdown mixture was prepared to duplicate that proposed by a power company in a request for discharge permit for cooling tower blowdown. This mixture was then used in static bioassays with juvenile steelhead trout and in algal assays with Selenastrum capricornutum Printz. Toxic effects were demonstrated for both the zinc and chromate components.
