Effect of residual stresses on the oscillations of a welded cylindrical shell

摘要：
The preliminary stress state can greatly change the natural oscillations of shells. The results are presented of examination of the effect of residual welding stresses on natural oscillations of a cylindrical shell with an annular welded joint. It is found that large changes in the natural frequencies of the shell should be expected to take place in cases in which the residual stresses are close to the level at which the shell loses its stability.
