The author assesses the present status of power supply and shows that electricity is not only a secure form of energy but is extemely priceworthy in relation to other types of energy. Both these factors provide the basis for its future economic development. Electrical power has never been a problem in the economic progression of the Federal Republic and this situation will prevail in the future. With a share of approximately 20% of total investment volume, the electricity economy is the largest investor in Federal Germany. In the fulfillment of its constitutional requirements, i. e. , to provide a constant, secure and priceworthy supply of power, the German power economy has effected restructuring measures and has speedily adapted itself to the changing primary energy situation. As before, nuclear energy continues to play a key role.
