摘要
The need of biomedical images to diagnose a disease, describe a bio-chemical pathway, monitor the impact of a treatment, or guide a procedure, is discussed. Second harmonic imaging microscopy (SHIM) is a practical technique for high-resolution imaging of cell and tissue structure and physiology. This technique relies on intense laser illumination that interacts with a highly ordered material, such a biomolecular arrays. Joshua Jones, a doctoral student at Stanford University, has developed a technique that can track the mitotic rate up to 10 cells in about five hours.
