Top management involvement and leadership is considered in implementing first-rate Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP II). Too much time and money has been drained by traditional approaches. Instead of viewing MRP II as a matter of inventory accuracy, routings, and bills of material - a computer path - manufacturing executives need a broader vision. A parallel paths approach can make the difference between 'Class A' performance in 12 to 18 months and years of disappointing results. What's needed is an effective computer path combined with a 'management path' - reflecting the business plan, sales plan, production plan and master schedule plan.
