Density and surface tension of Fe and Fe-Cu-S melts

Temperature dependences of density and surface tension of iron melts deoxidized by hydrogen and Al-Ca alloy, as well as of Fe-Cu, Fe-S, Fe-Cu-S alloys, were investigated. Measurements of density and surface tension were made by the method of 'great drop'. Additionally refined pure carbonyl iron served as initial metal. Significance criterion X2 was employed for identification of density polytherms in the form of curves, having sections, which corresponded to a certain structure of the melt. It is assumed that considerable difference in the values of surface tension during heating and cooling is related by sulfur introduction to the structure of the melt in the process of heating cycle.
