Polyureas having 1-5 oxyethylene units in the repeating monomer unit were synthesized from alpha , omega -diamino oligo(oxyethylene)s and hexamethylene diisocyanate and examined as adsorbents for divalent metallic ions. The adsorption of divalent metallic ions on to the polyureas showed a high selectivity for Hg**2** plus ion. The adsorption of Hg**2** plus ion was analyzed in terms of the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, thereby affording binding constant K and maximum adsorption w//s, which are substantially smaller than those of the corresponding polyamides. The repeated use of these polyureas as Hg**2** plus adsorbents was examined.
