摘要
A general survey of the literature on the subject of deformation and breakup of isolated fluid particles is made. After presenting the basic concepts, the main results obtained from independent lines of work previously scattered throughout the literature are detailed. Situations where inertia is negligible are considered, as well as situations where inertia drives the deformation. Finally, the problem of turbulent flows is clarified.
