Diffusion coatings of titanium and its combinations with other elements were deposited by vacuum powder-metallurgical methods from coatings of titanium hydride in heated furnaces, and also from coatings containing mixtures of titanium, nickel and molybdenum powders by induction heating of cylindrical testpieces of steels 20, 35Kh, and 38KhA. The titanium diffusion coatings studied did not provide complete corrosion protection. Titanized steel undergoes comparatively severe pitting corrosion. The use of such coatings is only possible if they are free from defects.
